What is MELISA Microdroplet Multiplex Diagnostic?
MELISA is a novel immunoassay that prints multiple biomarkers as microdots within a single well, enabling one-time loading and reaction for simultaneous multi-disease or multi-marker detection. It reduces sample and reagent usage, increases throughput, and lowers cost.
| Traditional ELISA | MELISA's Multiplex Solution | |
|---|---|---|
| One well, one target. Scaling requires more wells and plates. | Throughput | Multiple targets in a single well. |
| Large volume due to separate assays | Sample Usage | One-time loading for multiple analytes, up to 80 % sample saving. |
| Requires coating entire wells, high cost of precious antibodies. | Biomarker Usage | Just ~10 nL per spot, 99% reduction in biomarker consumption. |
| Cost grows linearly with test items on reagent and labour. | Assay Cost | Cost per test drops as targets increase – shared wells, shared workflows. |
| Single-channel absorbance reading. | Output & Analysis | AI-powered signal recognition, automated reporting. |
| Moderate. Less sensitive than chemiluminescence or molecular assays. | Sensitivity | Can match or surpass CLIA sensitivity through platform upgrade. |
| Conventional. Equipment and workflow haven't changed in decades. | Technology | Self-developed droplet printer, imaging system, and AI analytics. |
| Disease screening (1 item/test), academic research. | Applications | Ideal for syndromic panels, disease subtyping, high-throughput research. |
What Makes MELISA Fundamentally Different from Traditional ELISA?
It’s not just about reading more markers — it’s a change in how the foundation of the test is built and how the results are analyzed by recreating both the coating process and the signal development method,
MELISA creates a new paradigm for immunoassays — with higher efficiency, drastically reduced reagent use, and true multiplexing from just a single sample.
Production
Antibodies are coated across the entire well surface, consuming large amounts of reagents with low positional control.
ELISA: "Flood" Coating
Biomarkers are printed as precise nanoliter-sized droplets at fixed positions, minimizing reagent use and ensuring layout control.
MELISA: Precise Microspotting
Detection
Soluble TMB is used and the color diffuses throughout the liquid, allowing for only one visible result per well.
ELISA: Soluble Color Development
A precipitating TMB substrate is used, forming visible colored deposits at each spot, enabling true multiplex detection in a single well.
MELISA: Precipitating TMB
MELISA: Full-Stack Technology Integration
The MELISA team spans biology, electronic engineering, and AI, with end-to-end capabilities covering microdroplet dispensing, diagnostic kit development, and user-end data generation. All core modules are independently developed, forming a fully integrated diagnostic platform.
